Sleeve in new barrels on a double rifle..

Gents..

I have an extra set of barrels for my .475 double. They are in .280 Flanged NE. This is a pretty oddball round and not so easy to load for....too easy to get high pressures....and the rifle is then really much to heavy for calibre..

So I contemplate cutting those barrels and sleeve in a new set of barrels in either .375 Flanged or 9,3x74R and subsequently scope the new set with controlled claw mounts..

Have any of you done similar jobs..?

8 X 60 Double for a plains game hunt?

Gentlemen (and ladies)

I have a 1926 Merkel DR in 8 x 60 JRS. (.323) I obtained her as a bit of a basket case in 2008 and since then have sorted her out. Originally made as 8 x 57 JR (.318) and at some stage re-chambered and "let-out" to .323) . I also have had mounts made for a 4 x 32 Swaro fixed focus scope that mounts on the original claw mounts.

It took a while as I spend a lot of time working away from home so things get done slowly..
Ammo is made from 7 x 65 r brass that is cut down...

My First Double Rifle Came From Santa This Year

Having shot Parker guns most of my life, I am no stranger to double guns, but became intrigued with the idea of a .405 WCF double rifle to be company for my 1895 TD .405. I looked far and wide for such a rifle without success until finally, I learned that a kindly gun maker had made one for himself, but was so busy making guns that he had no time to hunt. He understood my plight and provided Santa with one for me by this Christmas. The complete cased kit was in my Christmas day post and...

this is a continuation of the discussion in the "Chapuis or Merkel?" thread.

a recap, my Sabatti 450/400 NE 3" was having trouble so I decided to send it back. while searching for a new rifle in 450/400 NE 3" I stumbled across this gem in a caliber ive been interested in. after a number of emails and a phone call, me and the seller agreed on a price.

I do not have the rifle yet and probably wont get it for 3-4 weeks due to both me and the seller having busy schedules. but im sure it will...

Greetings gentlemen,

I really like this forum and I've been lurking in the background for some time now (sounds more keepy than it is). I especially enjoyed dugaboy's posts and I salute you Sir. And this brings me to the topic.

Im a bolt guy thru and thru, but due to midlife crisis and the decline of my manly prowess i've been thinking of finally getting a double rifle (heym 88b). Kids don't need an inheritage and they will probably grow up to dissapoint you anyway.

The thing is im not...

Reproofing a BPE rifle to NE?

in my random searching for double rifles i stumbled across a rifle that apperently started life as a 577 BPE 3" and was later reproved to 577 NE 3" (100gr cordite under 750gr bullet). i was unaware people actually did this. personally it sounds dangerous but the company that sold the rifle is a well know manufacturer so i doubt they would sell something dangerous.

how difficult is it to reproof one of these old guns to NE levels? what kind of requirements must be met? i imagine it must...

Extractors or ejectors?

You guys have probably discussed this previously but I am about to buy my first double rifle to use on my next buffalo hunt. Please help me decide whether to buy one with extractors or ejectors.
They still make new rifles either way so one is obviously not vastly superior to the other or else no one would buy the inferior design. What is your opinion on the topic? Thanks for your time.

700NE Double Rifle - I need help finding ammo or components.

Hello All,

Well, my latest project is having a 700NE Double Rifle custom built, but I can't find any ammo or components for having the rifle regulated.

I'm getting desperate.

It seems that all US sources have Bertam Brass backordered, and the custom brass makers are running over 3 months delivery, at best. If you know of any custom brass makers that could turn out a dozen or so, please let me know.

If anyone knows of a...

I know a lot of you guys are not far from Buda, Texas. I just received a contact from my son who has been working there this week. The Cabela's has a Searcy .470 for $6000 there in a glass case. The least expensive one I have ever seen was in Tulsa two years ago which the owner was asking $9000 for. Have no idea if this is one of the older ones using a Browning SxS action or not. But I think I would be going to at least look at it if I were in the area! Buff Buster or Red Leg???

The Rizzini Rhino Express in 470 NE or 500 NE. I know these guys make fairly good shotguns, but I'd never heard of their double rifles until I saw it mentioned on another forum. As far as looks go, it looks very nice, and of course the price is nice to. I wonder how it compares to the Merkel and Chapuis rifles in the same price point?

I may see if they're at the SCI Convention this week. I'd like to handle one at least.........

Hi Friends, I´m asking for your advice here

I´m ready to buy my first double, a Heym 88b PH (good price and very good dealer here in Chile).

Caliber is 470 NE (reloading is only permited for shotguns and handguns here, so I think 470 is better than 450/400 for commercial ammo) . My question is about barrel length, 24" or 26"? and why?. I´m thinking about 26" to help me tame the recoil a bit better.

Please, forgive the fact that I am not an native english speaker so there might be a lot...

I'm wondering if any one has tried Federals ammunition in their 500 NE? they offer 3 different loads with three very different bullets. my big question is, do these three loads regulate together?

it would seem like these three loads would have completely different points of impact given how different the bullets are.

thank you

Hi all, :)

Last week I entered an agreement with an arms dealer in Norway. An agreement that will blacken my wallet for a while. The papers were duly completed and handed police for approval. Application papers relates to a Karl Hauptmann double rifle sidelocks in caliber 475 # 2 NE.
Dear Hauptmann observes via control data that the rifle was adjusted with Kynoch ammunition and 480gr bullets [Eley].
This is my very first double rifle and I'm thrilled with excitement. Can not wait to try...
