Double Rifle 750 Nitro Express made by Armitalia di Lucchini Sandro & C. snc Sarezzo (Brescia), Italy

Marco Scaiola, a big bore fanatic from Italy, emailed me these pictures of this humongous double rifle to share on AH.

This double rifle 750 nitro express was made by Armitalia di Lucchini Sandro & C. snc Sarezzo (Brescia) in Italy and is owned by Mr. Lucchini. It took 8 years to build and it weighs 12 kilograms (26.5 pounds)....

WW Greener Empire

A local gunsmith has stated that it would be probably be possible to fit a set of double rifle barrels to a 12g Greener Empire triple bite lock-up, magnum action.

Has anybody out there done this, and what calibre is achievable please?

I know I could buy a Weatherby or Remington for less than a set of bespoke barrels, but reckon that you shoot best with what you regularly use.

Merkel 141 Experiences

I was wondering if anyone owns or otherwise had experience with the Merkel 141 in any caliber. What are your impressions? I understand that regulation of the barrels can be adjusted by the shooter to alter point of impact for different loads and distances. How has that system worked for you in actual practice? How much adjustability is there? What kind of accuracy at, say 100 yards (scoped), would one reasonably expect to achieve? Thanks!

Lefty Shooting a Double Rifle

I'm a southpaw and desperately want to add a double rifle to my collection. I have had the opportunity to shoulder a few doubles, but they have all been left handed. Most felt like they pulled up to my shoulder and eye well, but without actually shooting them I don't know. I shoot a very nice Spanish double sidelock shotgun with double triggers and have no problem even though they are right handed.

My question is even though a double usually has a cheek piece for a right hander, is there...

What caliber and the pros and cons of each

I am going to be building a double rifle as my final project in my machining school (if I can find a blasted blueprint for a boxlock action, if anybody knows a source please tell), but I am having a hard time choosing a caliber. Originally I was going to use the .375 H&H Mag. as my cartridge, but according to Ellis Browns book, it is a high intensity round as far as pressure goes. My other two options I am looking at are the 450/400 NE 3", and the 450 NE. I wish to have answers broken up...

Hi Guys

Looking from some guidance/advise on my Verney Carron 500NE.

I would like to install a recoil reducer (two of them) to gain some additional accuracy with less recoil. VC put lead inside the stock for the balance. I would need to remove the lead to add the recoil reducer.

I got the below response:
My technician advises you to keep the lead because the difference between lead and recoil reducer won't be significant. Anyway, if you really want to put a recoil reducer inside your...

Introduction Double Rifle Recommendations?

Now, to be quite honest, before I joined this forum I had only vague knowledge of the existence of double rifles. Since then, if there's one this I learned, it's that they are expensive. I see their value for dg, but I'm in no rush to hunt dg. However, I do want to start saving for one. Do you have any recommendations for double rifles new or used that go for under 5,000 USD. Preferably, significantly less than that, but I could pay up to that mark without too much crying :)...

Gents:

At last my latest double arrived.

It is a Rigby box lock ejector, caliber .350 no2.

It shoots a 225-grain bullet approximately 2550 fps.

The specs are as follows:

26-inch barrel

weight of 9 1/2 pounds

15-inch pull.

leaf sights for 100-200-400 yards (yes, no 300)

original scope mounts

with original case and label

completed 1943 for a Captain Stigand

(1943-really? During the middle of WWII? That's what the letter says.)

Bores are excellent. I hope to shoot it after the 4th....

I've been doing my homework learning about Doubles for a year or two and I'm debating which caliber for mine. So I thought I would test the waters from this august group.

The rifle will be for animals other than elephant so I'm going to stay under a .50. I'm looking at the following"

.450/400 NE 3"
.450 NE 3 1/4"
.470 NE

Opinions and thoughts? Pro's and cons?

Thanks.

Drilling or Combo gun as an alternative to a Double for Plains Game?

Though I'd love to go out and pick up a nice used double to use on Plains Game as a sentimental act- it's not in the cards financially right now. Like most, I too grew up reading the adventures of many of the great hunter/writers who used a Big Ole' Double Rifle on their Dangerous Game, and it would just be a great sentiment to hunt a Zebra, Warthog, or heck, any Plains game with a nice double.

But lately I've been very interested in the idea of using a 3 Barrel "Drilling" (2 Shotgun...

Has anyone here used Kynoch 470 ammo in their double rifles. If so, what kind of results? Now that my other two rifles have been sorted out, I'm ready to start work on my Searcy 470. I realize their ammo is expensive which is why a lot of people don't use it, but if it regulates the best for MY gun, why not use it. Just curious as to anyone used it in their gun. Thanks.

Hello All,

By request, I've posted this here also.

Well, after playing around with a dozen Double Rifles, and near as many Big-Bore Bolt Rifles, I finally stepped up - into the World of the 600 Nitro Express.

A Verney Carron Custom Shop XA Azur, with lots of Whistles and Bells. If you're going to go for it - you might as well get what you want.

And ........... it finally arrived.

After getting it home, I sat under the reading light with my magnifying glass, and just looked at for an...

Good moorning.
I Have a Merkel 141 caliber 8x57JRS.
Do anybody knows which screw, in the front of the barrels , is for horizontal adjustment, the upper or the lower one?
That's because the distance between shots of the two barrels at 50m is about 4 inches and I want to approch them.
Thank you all.

HELP - Who re-regulated my Sabatti 500 NE ?

Hello all,

I just bought a very nice Sabatti 92 Safari Deluxe in 500 NE caliber from Cabelas at a very reasonable price. It was advertised as having been re-regulated, but there was no test target or any indication of "who" did the work, or what ammo was used. It appears that whoever did the re-regulating also tuned the triggers, (smooth 5-1/2 and 6-1/2 lbs) and also upgraded to a NECG recoil pad.

The wedge has been left protruding, so this...

Investing in a rifle

I am looking to buy a double rifle in 470 nitro. I am looking for a high end rifle between 18k and 30k. I would like an older vintage rifle that I can add engraving to as I hunt my animals with the gun. Looking for info on guns that will hold value over time, manufacturers know to make top quality guns and things to look out for when buying a vintage rifle.

Second double rifle

So I finally broke down last year and purchased a Blaser S2 in 500 NE. And I absolutely love it.

I've been looking every since for another rifle. Not quite ready to drop enough to get another 470 or 500 but have been eyeing some 9.3x74R. I've recently been looking at the Chapuis C12 and the V-C Sagittaire. Now I've seen a 450-400 Sabatti. I've read some horror stories about them, but, for the price I'm considering taking a chance on one.

So that brings me to my questions. Anyone have any...

I am looking at a 2.75" 577 double it has hammers is this capable of using smokeless powder? Sorry if this is a simple question but I have no experience with doubles. Also if this can handle smokeless would it be possible to further ream out the chamber so it could use 3" cases?
