What caliber would you choose........
OK, despite my better judgement, I've decided to take the plunge and purchase my first double rifle in the next 2-3 months. While I would love to have one of the vintage (or new) bespoke english doubles (Wesley Richards, Holland and Holland), I still love my wife, and want to stay married as long as I can
. As such, I've been looking at the various manufacturers of modern double rifles (Merkel, Heym, Kreighoff, Chapuis, Verney-Carron, and B. Searcy). Not that they're inexpensive by...

Double Rifle or Express
What are some of the benefits of the classic double compared to an Over / Under express rifle? The express seems to be popular here in Europe in mid range calibers. I've seen many of them in metric calibers up to 9.3mm. I watch the online auctions sites pretty closely and the money for a SxS double is definitely higher than an express rifle. I've never shot an express rifle, so my knowledge is pretty limited. I have guided a couple of men who did. They certainly seemed to like them and...

Side by side or over under double rifle?
What if any difference is there between a side by side and a over under double rifle? I've noticed a lot of times a over under is cheaper than a side by side is that due too regulating differences thanks for all replies

EXPLAIN: Boxlock vs Sidelock
Don't laugh please...just a question that i had in mind for many years...i accept that i don't know ANYTHING about doubles (beside their cost, they look atractive, nothing wrong with them, i like them, i want one...) so, let me ask the following.
1. How can one see on the riflle if it is a boxlock or a sidelock double? (is it physical seeable?) and if so, please show them on a photo of sketch for me?
2. Which one will be the more preferable one?
3. Which one wil be the more expensive one?

The Sabatti Double Rifle
It is with great interest that we have read about the Sabatti Double rifles in large caliber. We have had three of these come into our Shop all in .470 Nitro. The guns as the come are seriously good value for money, when fired with the Hornady DGS series ammo which was the ammo used to test the guns each produced 1 inch groups easily at 25 meters. The rifles we found with the scalloped actions were not well fitted at the head of the stock. I obtained mine first and after 8 shots there was a...

Chapuis and Sabatti double rifles?
I have seen that 2 company's are making affordable (I guess you can call it affordable) double rifles. I think they cost around 3500-4500 USD, but I am not sure. Are these good, no-nonsense, reliable double rifles? Or are they something that is chincy and you wouldn't dare take to Africa? I know that double rifles are not really a place to skimp, but I can't help but wonder about these 2 company's. Any info on either company's double rifles would be appreciated.

Hopeful Double Rifle Owner Needs Some Direction
So, it's always been my dream to own a double rifle.......hunt with it.....and pass it along to my son. I am looking for some direction as to what make I should consider. Though I am open as to caliber my initial thoughts are .470 or .500. I've offered elsewhere here on this site to trade an Alaskan Brown Bear/ Moose hunt for a double, but want to be realistic as far as a fair exchange is concerned. For that reason let's set the parameters for the gun that I seek at $20,000 or less. My...

Doubles in Australia
For those of you living in Australia who may have an interest in doubles I can confirm that Trophy Arms of Essendon will be attending the up-coming Melbourne Gun show, 23-24th May, at the Melbourne Show grounds and will be displaying a number of double rifles for sale, in particular a range of Verney Carrons in various calibers.
If you ever contemplated a purchase this is a great opportunity to try feel, fit and balance before you buy.

Have I told you from Last Christmas?
I never had the wish to use a Double Rifle.
And so I was always happy with my Drilling and some repeating guns I use,or my Blaser K 95
And everyone knows that a double can be a diva.Moody and expensive.
And for buffalo in Africa, I loved my .375 simple Brünner with a Swarowski Scope and maximum 6 rounds in !!
A few days before last Christmas, there ended an auction in egun and to sell was a
Ferlach-Franz Sodia over and under double in .458 Win mag.
Produced in 1960
A widow sold this...

Left-handed doubles
Hey all,
So, I'm just putting this out there on the off chance that it might result in something. I'm looking for any left-handed doubles. Preferably what I'm looking for is a project: something I can work on over time. Please can you guys keep an eye out and let me know if anything comes up? Obviously I don't have the money to have one made, but I can make a plan for a project.
I know it's a long shot, but it will never happen if I don't ask around.
Regards,
Alexandro

Heym Double Rifles
This level of handwork, craftsmanship, and attention to detail is mind-boggling to me. I covet a Heym PH in .500-3" NE (though I think I wish they were a pound or so heavier in that caliber).

Sabatti doubles worked by Ken Owen
i see a number of Sabatti doubles on gunsinternational that are listed as regulated by Ken Owen. they look like nice rifles and are available in both the caliber i want (450/400) and at a price i can "afford". having said that, ive been burned by "good deals" before. ive heard some nasty stories about Sabatti double rifles and they have a real 50/50 reputation online. i would love a nicer rifle but i simply cannot swing the money any time soon. perhaps in the future (5-10 years) i will be...

416 Rigby question
Had a gent here in my area ask me about a Merkel double in 416 Rigby and what the plus's and minus's are. I started to talk about rimmed vs rimless case in a double but realized that all my double's and every one I have shot are all rimmed calibres so have no actual experience shooting a rimless calibre. So to provide sound advice anyone have experience with a rimless in a double? and what has your experience been?

Scoped Double, Why?
I'm not an owner (Yet) of a double rifle, but I see lots of pictures of doubles with scopes and I'm wondering why?
My idea of a double is a fairly close range gun that can be quick and very deadly in an instant when needed. Putting a scope in the way of the of or replacing the open sights seems wrong. I understand no one should be making snap shots at anything, but that's where the double excels.
If one has the time to shoulder and take careful aim through an optic other than maybe a red...

.600 and an 8-bore Double Rifle
Gents:
For your viewing pleasure (no, not Janet Reno in a thong) are two of my doubles. The 8-bore is from Walter Locke and retailed in India about 1890s. Bore diameter is a large .875", 24-inch barrels and a weight of 17 pounds. She shoots a 1000-grain ball or a 1620-grain conical with equal accuracy with Blue Dot (up to 100 grains) or FFg GOEX (10-12-14 drams or 275-330-385 grains). I called in a moose with the Locke in hand but the antlers were below the 50-inch mark so it was illegal and...
